Started this piece last week after I listened to this: [link]
Came home after a long stressful day of doing homework nonstop, so this form of meditation really helped me to calm down and focus. This is the result - a piece that was screaming to be unleashed for months, maybe years. All I know is that I've seen it many times in my imagination - I mean the colors, the subject, the scenery, and the mood.
I like unsettling imagery, which is why my inspiration is a long time favorite: Alvin Schwartz' Scary Stories trilogy. It wouldn't be half as effective and memorable if it weren't for horror artist Stephen Gammell.
Since it was a messy piece, I couldn't scan it. So I had to take photos using my Nikon D60 and a tripod. Made minor alterations in Photoshop CS4.
To make the mood more effective, I listen to a variety of music, mostly soundtracks from: Resident Evil, Silent Hill, John Carpenter's The Thing, The Ring, and Nox Arcana.
If you're interested, the most common tracks were:
RE Orchestra: "Peace of Mind"
RE Outbreak: "The Big Picture" "Distant Future" "Outbreak Reprise"
RE 0 - "Cathedral"
RE 2: "Left Alone" "Secure Place" "
RE 3: "Never Give Up the Escape"
RE 4: "Sorrow (End Credits)"
The Thing: "Humanity part 1 & 2" "Solitude" "Wait"
my copy of More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is in bad condition D: i thought i had all three but this is the only one i can find laying around...
Right when I saw the word 'snag' I instantly thought of 'The Dead Hand'. From how they called the dead trees in the story. This is also a really great picture, I like it a lot.
Thank you again
